One year ago today, November 4th, 2009, the first radio show for credit union professionals aired, CU Chat Up. I really can't believe it is a year and 39 shows later. The initial idea for doing the show and the first show airing were only a few days apart. I never considered at that time it would last a year.
The idea for the show came about when I first listened to a friend who was a guest on a show about television programs. That show got me to thinking about how a credit union could use blogtalkradio to do a program for their members. Then, I listened to my friends, Lesley Lambert, Maya Paveza, and Diane Guercio's Twitterqueens radio show about social media and real estate. Giving credit where credit is due, they inspired me to do the show. And, I'm glad to know that my show has encouraged others to have shows, as well, including the CU Water Cooler's Liquid Lunch, RadioFree CU Show, and just this week, Sarah Cooke's Credit Union Times On Air.
I want to thank those of you who make the show possible, the guests and the listeners. Without either, the show would not be a success! Also, to The Disclosures for writing and performing the CU Chat Up theme song. The show is so much better now with a little music!
If you have missed any of the shows, I am embedding links to all 39 shows below. If you haven't listened to any of them before, pick a topic you are interested in and check it out.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 3rd, CUNA Mutual Group is holding its annual Discovery Conference. But, this year instead of being in Florida or some other warm location, the event is being held in your office, desk, couch, wherever you want to be. You can show up in a suit or pajamas, it doesn't matter!
Not only can you attend from anywhere, the price is right ... FREE!
But, free doesn't really mean much if the content isn't worth your time. The conference has a great line-up of speakers and topics. Here is the full agenda: Discovery Conference. There are regular speaker sessions, as well as, chat sessions.
Like regular conferences, there will be an Expo center and a networking room in addition to the sessions. They will even be giving away prizes including a $5000 Discovery grant to a credit union, an iPad, an iPod Touch and much more. The prizes are enough reason to at least check it out, right?
I'm not being paid to write about this conference, I just think this is a great learning opportunity for credit unions. Check out the sessions and bring in specific staff members for one or two sessions. Or, attend all day. I've seen many of the speakers before and they are top-notch and you will learn something new.
If you aren't sure how a virtual conference works, here is a youtube video explaining the set up. Watch it below. Here are also the provided conference tips.
Due to the Discovery Conference, there won't be a new CU Chat Up this week, but the show will be returning next Wednesday at the new time of NOON CT about Rewards Checking and whether it is a sustainable pricing model or not.
If you didn't register in time or are reading this after November 3rd, the sessions will be archived and available for viewing for 90 days. (I will post link after the event)
I hope to see lots of CU Chatters in the networking room!
